married Betty Stevenson, daughter of Robert Stevenson and Lilly
Campbell.
Archibald
McKechnie is believed to have come to the Island of Jura with the Campbell's from
the Braes of Lorne. Betty Stevenson who was born 1775 and died 2nd
April 1863 at New Brosdale, Jura, Argyll, Scotland. Betty's father Robert, was a slate quarrier and is believed to be
related to Robert Louis Stevenson.

McKechnie.
Duncan
was a blacksmith at Port Ellen, Isle of Islay, Argyll, Scotland. The laird offered to pay his
passage so that he could go abroad and better himself. He refused and is
reputed to have said that if he went abroad, he would raise the money
himself; he eventually went to Australia. He was back on Jura, Argyll when Duncan,
Betsy's brother, was born and the child was named after him.

McKechnie (Archibald1) was born 1804, and died
16-March-1877 in Corran House, Jura, Argyll, Scotland.
He married Margaret Shaw in Colonsay, Argyll,
daughter of Richard Shaw and Christina Currie. -
James died at Corran House, (which at the time was a change house.) aged 73,
16th March 1877 at 11.55pm of rheumatism which he suffered for 3 years. Not
certified, registered by James McKechnie, his son.

McKechnie (Archibald1) was born 1808, and died 1887.
He married (1) Janet Darroch, born 1812 and died 7-May-1855
at Brosdale, Jura, Argyll, Scotland. Janet was the daughter of Michael Darroch and
Catherine McDougall. Angus
married (2)
Ann McDougall 7-December-1858 in Jura Parish, Argyll, Scotland,
daughter of Dugald McDougall and Catherine Darroch. Ann was born 1826 and
died 4-September-1914
at Craighouse, Jura, Argyll, Scotland. Angus
was employed as a joiner at Ardfin and was also known to be a cartwright. He
lived for part of his life at Caigenhouse and it seems he
had 10 children by his first wife and three by his second.

Dugald2 McKechnie (Archibald1) was
born 1808 in Jura, Argyll, Scotland and died at the age of 85 on the 19-November-1893 in
Knockrome, Jura, Argyll, Scotland.
He married Mary McDougall 7-July-1831 in Jura Parish Church,
Jura, Argyll, Scotland, daughter of Angus McDougall and
Christina McGillvray. Cause of death was bronchitis
which he suffered for 10 days. Certified by John McDonald, MB. Registered by his
son Angus McEachern.
Mary died at
the age of 72, 8th February 1881 at 6am and is buried in Kilearnadail graveyard,
Jura, Argyll, Scotland. Cause of death was old age and debility. Registered by her husband Dugald McEachern.
